An individual who spiked treats with sedative and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two young males both nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.

She explained the defendant went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities a second time.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
